LA Times Begins to sabotage efforts of Central City East to create a better living environment

Wednesday, August 24

I don't know if it was deliberate, But the LA Times Continues to call my Neighborhood " skid row" . Skid row is a state of mind , it is not a place. I and many others live in Central City East. The planning maps designate it as such , why should outsiders define the name of my neighborhood , to include the LA Times. ?

The LA Times does a story today a Q and A about "skid row" sometimes called central city east", here is the HTML version ( History of Skid Row) no it is not Central City East sometimes called Skid Row. It is Central CIty East Sometimes called Skid row.

Oh yeah and what kind of a title is that? " NEAR DOWNTOWN" . Little lady this is Downtown, not near Downtown, you better get your facts straight. Here is what is found at the top of the paper which Donald Spivack writes concerning Central city East :

The Central City East area (not skid row as the author of the times article states)of downtown Los Angeles is an area of approximately
50 city blocks.
It is generally bounded by Third Street on the north, Alameda
Street on the east, Seventh Street
on the south and Main Street on the west. ( these boundaries have actually changed- to los angeles on the west- )
It is a portion of Greater Downtown ( again in her article she says we are near downtown , we are a part of Downtown), the roughly
triangular area bounded by
the Pasadena and Harbor Freeways on the west, the Los Angeles
River on the
north and east, and the Santa Monica Freeway on the south
.

How do I know this ?, I was on the City Center Redevelopment project area committee for the City Center Redevelopment project area and did lot's of research on the Area. Central City East. So the question begs , why if other parts of the Downtown Area are reclaiming their old names and even making new ones for themselves , why are we constantly having this monikor placed on us. Not to mention I was able to get 1500 units of sro type housing put in the redevelopement plan., and fought for upfront housing to be built instead of just relocating people , if housing units were lost.

For the Benefit of the LA Times _ this is Central City East.

I think that Mayor Villian-raigosa and the LA Times are definitely in bed together. Think about it all throughout that last run-off election all of the bad news was associated with Hahn and it was on the front page! But that $179,000 donation from a competing interest to LAX it was a small section hidden in back.

I believe this is just an attempt to scare the public and discredit all the hard work many people did over the last 4 years.

I wouldn't be suprised if they go back to calling South LA, South Central LA.
